Voices of the Sisterhood

Elder Sister & Younger Sister; Big Sister & Little Sister; Molly Barr & Nevada Barr — the last of our kind.

This is our BLOG. We don’t know why we started it and we don’t know where it’s going. We are interested in sharing some of our thoughts and more interested in hearing yours. We are trying a number of avenues to facilitate this. You may see pages appearing and disappearing, so bear with us while we experiment. In the mean time we are amusing ourselves by writing a kick ass fantasy tale which you are free to check in on: N.E. Story tabs above.

ABOUT US:

Molly is a retired airline pilot, an artist and, now, runs a small, hobby Persian cattery in the Bay Area. Nevada was an actor, a law enforcement ranger with the National Park Service and now writes and paints for a living.

We feel things sharply, think obsessively and are inveterate problem solvers.

Over a shared century of people-years we have had four husbands, studied Taoism, Episcopalianism, atheism, psychotherapy and read and traveled extensively. We have been through the end days and death of a mother with Alzheimer’s and a father with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

We have read the Tarot on Jackson Square in New Orleans, explored past lives with a Sufi master, taught martial arts and first aid and given flying lessons, cast spells with a practicing witch, studied Voodoo, lit candles in the great cathedrals of Europe, burned sage outside of Navajo sweat lodges, tried herbs, magical amulets, dream catchers and affirmations, spun prayer wheels in Nepal and practiced transcendental meditation. Once we even sent off for the X-ray glasses offered on the back of a Superman comic. In our defense, we were five and eight at the time.

We have not discovered the meaning of life.

We have not found inner peace (except now and then on very good days).

What we have learned is fairly good ways to deal with the rotten problems that ruin one’s day, week or, if ignored, year.

Along with Winston Churchill our philosophy of life is never, never, never give up. We admit no failures, only things that haven’t succeeded yet.
